Mayor and Council Advocate for an End to Hospital Closures – A Call for Community Support

The District of Lillooet's Mayor, Council, and CAO are deeply concerned and upset by the ongoing hospital closures that have affected our community. We recognize the distress these closures cause and want to assure you that we are actively working to resolve this critical issue.

Our leadership has been in continuous dialogue with Interior Health and has held several meetings to address the province-wide shortage of doctors contributing to these closures. We have the full support of all local communities and leaders, including our First Nations community partners, MLA, and Regional Director. Together, we are united in our efforts to find a solution.

This matter has also been raised at the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) and the ministerial level, where we continue to advocate for the restoration of full hospital services in Lillooet.

While we are deeply frustrated by the situation, we also want to express our unwavering support for our hospital and care staff, who are doing everything they can under challenging circumstances. Council is exploring all options to ensure that the Interior Health Authority provides the health services our community deserves.
