Media Release: Local Government and Community Leaders Express Disappointment Over Another Emergency Department Closure in Lillooet

Lillooet, BC – August 21, 2024 – The District of Lillooet, in collaboration with community leaders and the St’a’timc Nation, expresses its deep disappointment and frustration following yet another closure of the Lillooet Hospital Emergency Department. August 21 is the third consecutive day where local residents are being told to make the two-hour trek to Kamloops for their emergency care. This repeated disruption is placing significant strain on our community and its ability to access timely emergency care.

The District of Lillooet, and St’át’imc leadership are united in our concerns about the ongoing closures, which put all people n jeopardy. The District of Lillooet is scheduled to meet with Interior Health on Monday, August 25 to discuss potential solutions and explore every available tool to address this pressing issue.

The community leadership remains committed to advocating for stable and reliable healthcare services. Updates will be provided as discussions progress and concrete actions are identified.
