Open Burning Season Closed

May 16, 2023
As per the District of Lillooet Fire Department Establishment and Fire Prevention Bylaw No. 461, open burning of yard waste materials is now closed as of May 16, 2021 - 12:00am.  Permits will not be issued until October 15th, 2023 or until further notice.

This closure only effects Category 2A, 2B and Category 3 open burning within the District of Lillooet and does not include campfires.
As a reminder we ask that if you choose to have a campfire that you understand the regulations.
  • A campfire is defined as being no larger than 0.5m high and 0.5m in diameter.
  • You must have a minimum of 8 litres of water or a hand tool on hand at all times while your campfire is lit.
  • Ensure that you have a fuel break around your campfire.  This area must be cleared of debris and anything combustible.  It needs to be wide enough to stop the spread of the fire.  A rock ring around the fire can also help prevent it from spreading.
  • You MUST NOT leave your fire unattended for ANY length of time.
Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be subject to fines and penalties.
