NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
OPEN BURNING BAN RESCINDED
Effective at noon on October 16th, 2023 the open burning prohibition will be rescinded. As per Section 30(1) of the District of Lillooet Fire Department Establishment and Fire Prevention Bylaw 2018 No. 461
open burning is now permitted within the District of Lillooet.
As per municipal bylaws,
all persons must obtain a Burning Permit prior to igniting any fires and must strictly adhere to the regulations and requirements of the bylaw. Open Burning is for the purpose of burning yard waste materials and or natural vegetation from the property only. The use of burn barrels for open burning requires a burn permit.
Check the District of Lillooet Fire Department Establishment and Fire Prevention Bylaw 2018 No. 461 for a list of materials that are prohibited from being burned.
Burning Permits can be obtained at the District of Lillooet municipal hall reception desk or by calling 250-256-4289.
Burning Permits are not required for campfires. Campfires are defined as being a small confined fire that burns solid material in one pile no larger than 0.5m in height and 0.5m in diameter and is used for recreational purpose for cooking and warmth.
Anyone found in contravention of the District of Lillooet Fire Department Establishment and Fire Prevention Bylaw 2018 No. 461 may be subject to fines and penalties.
