DOWNTON PARK UPGRADE PROJECT COMPLETE

LILLOOET, BC, May 18, 2023 / The District of Lillooet is pleased to announce the completion of the Downton Park Upgrade project, which was made possible with the generous funding from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund and the Squamish Lillooet Regional District.

The project aimed to revitalize Downton Park as an inclusive town market and gathering place, providing a welcoming public space to celebrate the community’s diverse history, culture, and people, and to showcase the uniqueness of the community. The project works include installation of overhead festival lighting, a dedicated flagpole for the St’át’imc Nation flag, a water fountain with a bottle fill station, and a modern and accessible washroom facility that can now be used year-round for special events in the park.

The District of Lillooet would like to thank the Canada Community Revitalization Fund for supplying $92,248 and the Squamish Lillooet Regional District for providing $20,000 in "PILT" funding, through Area B Director Vivian Birch-Jones, for their contribution to this project, as well as the District staff and local contractors who made this happen. The District of Lillooet would also like to acknowledge the collaboration and support of the St’át’imc Nation in this project.

A four-year passion project of Mayor Laurie Hopfl, the Downton Park Upgrade is part of the District of Lillooet’s vision to enhance the livability and attractiveness of the community, and to foster social and economic development. The District of Lillooet invites residents and visitors to enjoy the new amenities and features of Downton Park, and to participate in the upcoming events and activities that will be held at this vibrant and inviting space.

The washrooms are scheduled to open to the public on May 20th, 2023
