Declaration of Election

General Voting Day for the 2022 General Local Election is Saturday, October 15, 2022.

Voting to be held in the Gymnasium at the Lillooet REC Centre from 8am to 8pm.

To be elected are:

  • one (1) Mayor
  • four (4) Councillors

Who is eligible to run for office?

You are qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of a local government if you meet the following criteria:

  • Canadian Citizen
  • 18 years of age or older on election day
  • Resident of BC for at least six (6) months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed (i.e. prospective candidates must have been a BC resident prior to March 8, 2022 to be eligible to run in the 2022 general local elections); and 
  • Have not been disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in BC or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office, or been otherwise disqualified by law.
You do not have to live in the jurisdiction in which you are running for office.

When does the nomination period begin and end?

Nominations will be accepted by the Chief Election Officer beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 and ending at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 9, 2022. Potential candidates are reminded that to run as a candidate, you must be nominated by two (2) people who are qualified to vote as resident or non-resident property electors in the District of Lillooet.
 

When will nomination packages be available?

Nomination packages will be available for pick-up at Lillooet Municipal Hall, 615 Main Street, Lillooet, British Columbia, on July 28, 2022. Individuals requesting a nomination package must obtain the information from the Chief Election Officer or designate.
