SLRD Recycling, Composting & Solid Waste

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is continuously working to reduce the amount of waste that our region produces, with a goal of one day achieving Zero Waste.

The SLRD's Solid Waste Management Plan was developed in 1996, and has been regularly updated since then in order to find new ways to reduce waste through the 5Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle, resource recovery and residual management. The plan authorizes existing and planned waste management facilities and directs regional waste reduction programming in order for the SLRD to continue to provide the services that our citizens need to become waste-free.

In British Columbia, regional districts are required under the Provincial Environmental Management Act to develop Solid Waste Management Plans. Solid Waste Management Plans provide a long term vision for how regional districts manage their solid waste, including waste reduction, diversion and disposal activities.
